OAKLAND TENANTS UNION

Picture

The Oakland Tenants Union is an organization of housing activists. OTU's core values are to protect and expand tenant rights and interests. OTU works directly with tenants in their struggle with landlords, impacts legislation and public policy about housing, community education, and works with other organizations committed to furthering renters’ rights. The Oakland Tenants Union is open to anyone who shares its core values and believes that tenants have the power and responsibility to advocate on their own behalf.

  Virtual Tenant Advice Hours

During Shelter-in-Place, Counselors from OTU are providing virtual tenant advice hours for Oakland tenants from 3:00 - 5:00 pm every other Sunday via a Zoom call. The next scheduled date is 1/17 and every two weeks thereafter. Participants may join the meeting by video (if you have the Zoom app on your phone and/or your computer has a microphone and camera), by audio only (if you can use Zoom from your phone and/or computer but just don't have a camera), or by dial-in over the phone. All participants must register in advance. There is a limit of 20 pre-registered advice seekers per session so we encourage you to sign up early.

To register, please visit http://bit.ly/2LgUJ8y and fill out the questionnaire by 12pm on the Sunday of the  advice hours session you want to attend. You will be emailed with a Zoom video conference link and call-in phone number. For those who want to register but do not have access to email, call 510-704-5276, say you are registering for Virtual Tenant Advice Hours, and leave your full name, phone number and date of the session you wish to attend. You will be called prior to the session and provided with the dial-in information.

Tenants will be helped on a first-come first-served basis, and we will add you to the queue in the order you join the meeting. All are welcome to listen in to advice being shared with other tenants but are not required to stay after you’ve been helped.

Please be advised this is not a private consultation. OTU has a policy of not advising landlords or matters regarding disputes between tenants. For any assistance with registration, please call 510-704-5276 or email info@oaklandtenantsunion.org.

Monthly Meetings

Oakland Tenants Union meets regularly at 7:00-9:00 pm on the second Monday of each month. During the pandemic, our meetings will be held virtually on Zoom.
